Steven R. Tannenbaum, Ph.D., is an Emeritus Professor in the Departments of Biological Engineering and Chemistry at MIT. His training is in chemistry, food science, toxicology, epidemiology, and related disciplines. His laboratory's research led to the discovery of the endogenous synthesis of nitrogen oxides, and eventually to the discovery of nitric oxide as a key biological molecule. The Tannenbaum group pioneered the application of mass spectrometry for the discovery of new toxins and carcinogens that are metabolized and then bind to DNA and proteins. This approach was then refined for the discovery of biomarkers in a wide range diseases including Dengue Fever and colon cancer. The group then moved into the application of ultramicro analytical methods into the area of tissue engineering models of biological systems.

As a Senior Advisor to Green Toxicology LLC, Professor Tannenbaum provides strategic guidance, scientific peer-review, and support for expert analysis and testimony for cases in litigation.
